What is Baklava Dessert?
Turkish baklava is the oldest type of sweets in history. This date goes back to the reign of Fateh Sultan Mehmet. According to the approximate information, baklava, which was included in the recipes of the palace at that time, was cooked for the first time in 1473 in the Topkapı palace. Another note on the history of baklava was written by Evliya Çelebi in the middle of the 17th century. However, in the historical records prepared by Seyyid Vehbi, one of the poets and writers of the period of Ahmad III, it was mentioned that during the circumcision ceremony held for the sultan's four princes, all the guests were served a baklava table.
From this and other similar records, it can be seen that although baklava was a taste known to almost everyone in the Ottoman Empire, it was mostly a type of dessert enjoyed by the upper class living in palaces and mansions.
According to another version, baklava's presence in today's culture dates back to the time when the ancient Turks settled in Anatolia, that is, this culinary culture comes from the Scythian tribes and is naturally a Turkish dessert. This version also allows us to say that in ancient times the Scythians produced baklava as medicine due to its healing effect.
